Eastern Japan was struck by a 5.9 magnitude earthquake early Sunday morning. Tokyo, one of the most populated urban areas on the planet, was affected, with 40 injuries reported as buildings shook in the dead of night. No tsunami was triggered, but an emergency earthquake alert was issued as similarly-strong quakes are expected in the next few days.
